Compound Casting of Aluminum with Sheet Steel in 3D Sand Casting Using an Inductive Heating System

Compound casting is a process in which single component made from two metallic materials, such as aluminum and steel. Solid-liquid bimetallic compounds can be produced by suitable control. This technology reduce the number of joining processes, specific properties respective metal used for specifically designed product properties, example, where lightweight high strength are needed. paper presents an experimental methodology producing purely material-bonded joint cast zinc-coated sheet steel 3D sand using inductive heating system. The process-related temperature characterisation compound zone described test rig measurements. It shows that preheating only produce material bond between coated sheet. Shear tensile tests showed strengths 15 MPa 22 MPa. Laser surface pre-treatment laser ablation cutting on was carried out to investigate benefit possible microform-locking. results show strength-reducing influence shear tests. Micrographs formation Al4.5FeSi Al7Fe2Si, well other undefined intermetallic phases. thickness 10 µm.
